RE: PCIII install

Unfortunately Dyna's, Softail's, and Sportster's do not have much room for wiring or piggyback ECMs, this one reason I am a big fan of the Thundermax ECM, you remove the original and replace it with the new one. All I can tell you is take your time and make sure to look at all your options, you shouldn't have to re-route the main wiring harness. Look for help at PowerCommanders support line or a local shop, most shop owners will be willing to help especially if your a customer. (joke) You could ask that guy from the Ukraine.

RE: 2008 Big Dogs

I'd say from they number of replies to this post, it's more about loyalty and riding an American Legend.

RE: 2008 Models

You've been driving a car with it for years, it's a great system.

RE: Whats the lowdown on IDS?

You know this is going to be big money for HD, Ford had a flywheel assembly like this called a Dual Mass Flywheel, every time you shift the rubber will compress giving you the false feeling of a smoother shift. After time its going to fail and need to be replaced, it's rubber. I personally want to feel my shifts, if I want to bang a gear that's up to me and we all know how to shift smoothly so What's the big deal over this system anyway, I think it's a joke. BTW my ford has been sporting a solid flywheel for over 9 years the DMF failed after only 3 years.

RE: High Mileage

I had a guy come look at the bike, only to leave and buy an 03 with more chrome and extras. I called him to let him know I was lowering the price and he told me he bought the 03, and then said "I wish I had of bought yours, after I got it home and cleaned up it had a lot more rust and defects that I didn't notice before" well it's gone now and I miss it, but it's nice having an extra $355 in my pocket every month.

RE: twin cam rebuild--factory rebuild

There are plenty of places you could do better than Harley. Their rebuilds are top notch, but are you going to do the install or drop it off somewhere? Jims, Zipper's and many other companies ship high performance motors all over the country. If you would like more power under the seat this may be the way for you. If you want stock, maybe HD will work out better. Personally I like Zipper's monster torque motors and Jim's has a 120 touring motor that is bullet proof.

RE: Fuel injection mods

Also Check out Thundermax ecm, I use it and it's a very good system.

RE: Exhaust-ing...

Payloader had the answer, check some of the posts at D&D's site their 2 into or any other has more torque and horsepower than any other system through out the entire rpm range. I have RineHart TD on my 07 and they blow away the Python Slip-ons I had on my 05. That's sound advice for power, but of course style or looks is going to come into play.

RE: Howard's Hubless Harley

You know what would look even better, if they could do away with the chain drive and use a friction drive, then it would look like the tire wasn't even attached to the motorcycle. I almost sure that the next post will have the web address to the picture of this bike.

RE: Loud Pipes & City Ordnances

I've said enough, if you don't already know what's going on in this country than I can't help you. It's forced down my throat every day because I live 25 minutes from the Bush White House, so every morning it's in the paper and on the TV news 4 times a day. If you don't want to choose your own pipes, don't worry our government will choose them for you. But I will go down fighting not bent over and greased up. That's all for me folks.

RE: High Mileage

You and I know that, but there's not that many real riders out there so they don't know. Heck the guy that finally bought the bike came over to look at it, so I told him to sit down and fire it up (he had a shoulder injury and couldn't test ride it), so he sat down on a bike he new was for sale for over a year and I have a new bike so you could figure that the sale bike was not getting ridden that much, anyway he starts it and goes right to 3/4 throttle and holds it there for 45 seconds, if it had been an Evo he would have blown the seals. I wouldn't have done that to a cold motor on a bike I was going to buy.

RE: TWIN CAM IN FXR FRAME

What about Pan Manor's vintage Harley link, most vintage guys are pretty good mechanics and have done a little of everything.

RE: Loud Pipes & City Ordnances

Just because I can doesn't mean I will, I was trying to make a point. What I want to do is up to me and me alone, it's not up for a vote. I have common sense, respect, and morals, but I will not let you take away my freedom of choice because you have ran across a person or two without any. My suggestion to you is if you purchased a house on a six lane divided road and you don't like noise maybe you should move, it may be easier than trying to regulate the amount of noise a tractor trailer, car, motorcycle, back pack blower, weed eater, lawn mower, hedge trimmer or anything else that makes noise. I live on the Chesapeake Bay and it's very peaceful here, I can sit on my front porch all week after 8:00 PM and it's so quiet I can hear a car on a road that is over 3 miles away, but every weekend in the summer I know I'm going to hear boats, jetskis, and airplanes do their stall tests over the bay, but I pay no attention to them, it's the sound of people out enjoying themselves and their families on the weekend and it doesn't bother me a bit, I worked hard all week and now it's my turn if I choose. People have made their living off of these waters for centuries and now people are moving here and building million dollar homes and calling the county because their neighbor has crab pots on their dock and they don't want to look at them, but they want to eat crabs and they want them cheaper than anyone else too. I say move back where you came from, it has nothing to do with being considerate.

You can find more pics at Billy Lanes site, I think he has built 3 or more of the hubless bikes: www.choppersinc.com

RE: Loud Pipes & City Ordnances

I think that's bull, we've had enough liberties taken away from us it's time to stand up for individuality, after all isn't that what riding a Harley is all about. At every corner we are being told what to do, don't smoke within 25 feet of the office door or at the ball park, or in your own condo. Wear a helmet, put on a seat belt, pay $3.49 for diesel, and 3.29 for gas, where does it end. My deceased grandfather had a foot long cigar that he smoked everywhere, and I have a 3" Salem and a pair of Rineharts, so wake up because I'll be ROARING down your street one night soon at 3:00 am. and don't pi$$ me off or I just might remove the baffles and circle back later! I think that should stir the pot sufficiently.

RE: Cooler and better running with Cobra’s Fi2000R

You probably should have bought an oil cooler being that Harley has somewhat addressed the lean fuel issue, there is not much need for a new fuel management system if you have no changes to manage. You bike runs better because its getting more fuel and that should reduce heat due to a lean condition but you also lose fuel mileage. I also think there are better systems out there than Cobra, that doesn't mean it won't work, but I would suggest you do more research in advance to buying such an expensive system. Everyone has there own reason for picking a particular system and the Magazines reason could be that Cobra was the only one to send a free system or something to that nature.

RE: How long ya been riding?

I've been riding since I was 9 years old, but I had a long break from riding after I got married and had kids. My first bike was of course a Honda 50, then a Yamaha 60, Yamaha 100, and my first street bike was a Kawasaki 650 and I didn't have a car, I rode this thing to death all winter and summer for a couple of years in Maryland. Then came married life and I quit riding at age 25 and didn't ride again for 21 years, in January 05 I bought a Road King Classic and immediately started taking long trips and it didn't take long (October 2006) before I wanted something more comfortable for these trip so I now ride an 07 Road Glide and hope to keep on riding right into the sunset. I met a guy at the Myrtle Beach spring rally that rode until he was 79 and said his reflex was too slow and he had to quit but he still comes to the rallies in his car and loves it.
